CONGRESSWOMAN WILSON INTRODUCES RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING MAY AS HAITIAN HERITAGE MONTH Today, in commemoration of Haitian Heritage Month, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24)announced new legislation to establish the month of May as Haitian Heritage Month. H. Res. 224 declares May a time to recognize the history, culture, and achievements of the global Haitian community. Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement: “It’s fitting that May, the month when Haiti’s first flag was flown in 1803, should serve as a time to celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of this proud and unique nation. The Republic of Haiti—the first nation in human history founded by slaves—was born out of a desire for independence and dignity for all. It is truly an honor to commemorate Haitian Heritage Month alongside my Haitian friends and family. This month and every month, let us recognize the extraordinary contributions of the Haitian people to our community, and celebrate their continued success and prosperity. Congresswoman Wilson is available for comment. ### U.S. Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a second-term Congresswoman from Florida representing parts of Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward counties.
