Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement today as President Barack Obama prepared to take the oath of office on the Martin Luther King Holiday: “Today is a momentous day for American democracy. As we commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - the man whose voice, vision, and leadership changed the course of American history – we gather to celebrate the inauguration of a modern-day champion for progress: President Barack Obama,” said Congresswoman Wilson. Congresswoman Wilson added that, “As an activist in South Florida during the Civil Rights Movement, I cannot overstate the significance of Dr. King’s legacy. Likewise, I cannot fully express the pride and elation upon the re-election of our nation’s first African American president. It’s an honor to serve in the United States Congress at this extraordinary time.” Congresswoman Wilson is available for comment. ### U.S. Rep. Frederica S.
