Congresswoman Wilson Meets with National and International Presidents of Greek Organizations on Capitol Hill to Discuss Ways to Combat Hazing and to Discuss Her Anti-Hazing Legislation

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) will hold a news conference on Capitol Hill to talk about new initiatives to end Hazing in the wake of the death of FAMU Drum Major and hazing victim, Robert Champion.

MIAMI, FL - Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) will hold a news conference on Capitol Hill to talk about new initiatives to end hazing in the wake of the death of FAMU Drum Major and hazing victim, Robert Champion. The news conference will be held at 10:00am, September 20, 2012, at The House Triangle at the Capitol. Congresswoman Wilson will be joined by: Pam Champion, Robert Champion’s mother; Leanne Kowiak, mother of hazing victim Harrison Kowiak; the Presidents of Greek Letter Organizations, College and University Presidents and students.

“Hazing is dangerous, and hazing is deadly. Hazing is not a university problem. It is not a Greek problem. It is not a student problem. It is an American problem,” says Congresswoman Wilson.

Congresswoman Wilson played a key role in the passage of the Chad Meredith Act, as a State Legislator, which makes hazing a felony under Florida Statues, and she is drafting federal anti-hazing legislation which will be a focal point of this national discussion.
