MIAMI, FL – Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s nomination of Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge William L. Thomas to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida: “I congratulate Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge William L. Thomas on his nomination by President Barack Obama to serve on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Judge Thomas is a man of great integrity, who would bring tremendous knowledge and skill to the Florida Southern District Court’s bench. Judge Thomas has earned a reputation among his peers as a tough-but-fair judge with exceptional fidelity to the rule of law. Given his exceptional qualifications and reputation, this is truly a well deserved honor,” says Congresswoman Wilson. In a June 5, 2012 letter, Congresswoman Wilson urged Florida Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio to submit Judge Thomas’ name to the White House for consideration. Judge Thomas would be the first African-American to be appointed to a Florida Federal District Court in nearly 20 years. Over the past 19 years, Judge Thomas has tried 240 jury trials and 75 cases to verdict as a judge and lawyer, respectively. ### U.S. Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term Congresswoman from Florida representing parts of Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward counties. A former state legislator and school principal, she is the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school. |
