Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), issued the following statement on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:
“On a clear, crisp Tuesday morning in September 2001, we woke up to the most heinous attack on the American people in our history. Thousands of innocent men, women and children lost their lives in the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania at the hands of terrorists – and our youthful innocence as a nation was forever lost. Just as December 7, 1941 is ‘a date which will live in infamy,’ September 11, 2001 is a date we will never forget.
“As we remember the fallen from that fateful day – the civilians, the first responders and the service members – we also recall the unity and strength of purpose we had as a nation to make sure that such a crime of humanity never happens again.
“We have rebuilt the Pentagon, a new Freedom Tower will open next year and Osama bin Laden has been brought to justice, but we must forever remain vigilant. Today, let us remember the loved ones we lost with a moment of silence and recall the spirit that bound us following the terrorist attacks by participating in community service.
