Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans:

“As a former teacher, principal and school board member, I strongly support President Obama’s White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans. Education is the key to success, and we need to close the achievement gap in high school and college graduation rates. This initiative will benefit not just the black community; it will make our country stronger and better able to compete in the global economy. I look forward to working with President Obama as we help young black students get the key that will unlock the door to the American Dream.”
