Congresswoman Wilson Announces Over $500,000 in Funding for Vision Research at University of Miami School of Medicine
For Immediate Release: 11/29/2011 Contact: Mahen Gunaratna, (202) 225-4506 Congresswoman Wilson Announces Over $500,000 in Funding for Vision Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-17) today announced a $527,359 grant from the National Eye Institute at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The grant will be awarded to Dr. Jeffrey Goldberg at the University of Miami School of Medicine for a project on vision research. “I’m pleased to announce this critical funding for vision research at the University of Miami School of Medicine,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “As a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I understand the important role that research and development plays in our economy, and I know that UM is at the forefront of many of these cutting-edge breakthroughs.” Dr. Goldberg’s grant project is titled “Signaling Scaffolds and Survival in Stroke.” Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term congresswoman representing the 17th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties. She is a former state legislator and school principal and the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school. |
