Rep. Wilson on the Release of Staff Sergeant Gilad Shalit

Wilson: “At Long Last, the Shalit Family Will Be Reunited with their Dear Son and Grandson”

Rep. Frederica Wilson (FL-17) today released the following statement on the impending release of Gilad Shalit:

“At long last, the Shalit family will be reunited with their dear son and grandson,” said Rep. Wilson. “My thoughts and prayers are with Staff Sergeant Shalit and all loved ones who have suffered throughout this five-year ordeal. Now more than ever, he belongs at home with his family.

“I congratulate Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government on securing his release through difficult negotiations.”

In June 2006, Staff Sergeant Shalit was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists. He has since been held in Gaza.

Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term congresswoman representing the 17th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties. She is a former state legislator and school principal and the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
