Congresswoman Frederica Wilson’s Statement on the Republican Funding Freeze on Grants and Loans

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, released the following statement on the Republican funding freeze on grants and loans:

“Republicans are orchestrating a reckless and unlawful scheme to choke off virtually all federal funding from basic services. Whether that funding is going to our farmers, our transit system, our students, our community health centers, or our non-profits, it’s all on hold. The impact on Miami-Dade and Broward County will be devastating. I’ve attended countless check presentations and ribbon cuttings—seeing these projects in limbo for four years is unthinkable.

“Let’s be clear: this act by the administration is illegal and will only raise costs for everyday families. Congress has authorized these funds, and they must be delivered. Cutting funding for housing, healthcare, and farmers will only cause rent to go up, skyrocket medical bills, and hike grocery prices. I'm thinking about the federal funding for Miami-Dade County transit, Head Start programs for low-income children, Pell Grants for students to pay for classes, community health centers for seniors, and so much more. Many of us have questions about the execution of this funding freeze and what this federal freeze includes, but Democrats and I are determined to get answers and ensure the funding that's been secured by law gets delivered. Republicans are trying to undermine the Constitution and harm working families—and that simply cannot stand.”

Given the sweeping nature of the order, the exact details and execution of this funding freeze are unknown at this time. For updates, please follow the House Democratic Appropriations Committee.
