Congresswoman Wilson Announced $3 million for Washington Park in North Miami Beach

North Miami Beach, Fla, July 16, 2024

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24), presented a $3 million check to the City of North Miami Beach for Washington Park.  Congresswoman Wilson advocated for the inclusion of this funding in the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill.

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson said, “This funding is more than an investment; it’s a game-changer for our neighborhoods near Washington Park. It will create jobs, boost our economy, and enhance our quality of life. This isn’t just an average park upgrade; it’s a blueprint for healthier, happier lives, and stronger community bonds. I envision children and families enjoying this park for generations to come. I am incredibly proud to have secured this funding and it’s a privilege to represent North Miami Beach everyday.”

Mayor Evan S. Piper, Mayor of the City of North Miami Beach, said, "Today marks a significant milestone for the City of North Miami Beach with the generous support of Congresswoman Frederica Wilson. The $3,000,000 grant for the Washington Park Site Development project will not only rejuvenate our community by replacing the outdated facilities with a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly complex but will also provide a safe, engaging, and inclusive space for our residents to enjoy for years to come. This project embodies our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community well-being. We are incredibly grateful for this investment in our city's future."

The Washington Park renovation project consists of removing the existing dilapidated park and community center and replacing it with a multi-purpose complex. The new complex will feature a 12,900-SF state-of-the-art LEED Certified community center with a library and computer labs, a new zero-entry pool with saltwater purification, splash pad, playgrounds, sports courts, recreation fitness equipment, passive seating areas, and synthetic recreation fields. The site will also feature native and Florida-friendly landscaping, art installation, LED lighting, a covered bus shelter, wayfinding signage, and parking.

Congresswoman Wilson has also requested $5 million to the City of North Miami Beach for Washington Park in the Fiscal Year 2025 government funding bill.
