Congresswoman Frederica Wilson’s Statement on the Supreme Court’s EMTALA cases

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson released the following statement on the Supreme Court decisions in the consolidated EMTALA cases Moyle v. United States and Idaho v. United States:

“We can’t go back to the days before Roe v. Wade and today, we saw a win for all people across the nation. The Supreme Court made the right decision in ensuring people can access lifesaving abortion care and maintain autonomy over their bodies and reproductive health, free from interference by out-of-touch MAGA Republicans. But let’s be clear, while this decision was a temporary win, it was also the bare minimum.”

"I know what it was like before Roe v. Wade and I almost died because I couldn’t get any lifesaving care—it was illegal for the doctor to induce labor even though I had a still birth and my baby boy Wilson was dead. Folks today should not have to experience what I did, and politicians have no place meddling in life-or-death matters like access to emergency care. Despite this pivotal ruling, we must remain united against those who seek to strip away our rights and regress into a time that denies people their reproductive freedom."

“Now more than ever, the drive to safeguard our reproductive freedoms rings true. In an era where MAGA Republicans want to bring us back to the days before Roe v. Wade, it is our duty to stand firm because we cannot go back! Reproductive freedom is fundamental, and I will continue to fight until reproductive justice is secured now, and forever.”
