Congresswoman Wilson’s Response to the State of Florida Rejecting Federal Funds to Provide Grocery-Store Money for Low-Income Families

Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) issued the following statement regarding the State of Florida Rejecting Federal Funds to Provide Grocery-Store Money for Low-Income Families under the Summer EBT Program:

“Have Florida State Republicans bothered to step into grocery stores lately and seen the price of eggs, vegetables, meat, or any other product Floridians rely on? Are they so out of touch that they are going to deny families federal help in buying groceries? Officials in Florida need a reality check as their recent decision to deny families $120 in federal funds for groceries to help feed their kids is both outrageous and a failure of Republican state leadership.”

“The $120 per child is a way that we, as taxpayers, can help struggling families. It’s Floridians' tax dollars helping the children of Florida. Only MAGA states are refusing to accept this safety net for food insecurity.”

“Sadly, this is yet another example of years of failed Republican leadership in Florida that routinely denies federal assistance to everyday Floridians – be it millions in home energy funding or resources to expand Medicaid.”

“I will continue to fight for everyday Floridians to lower everyday costs and grow the middle class.”
