Congresswoman Wilson Secures $35 Million in Funding for District 24

Miami, Fla.  Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) voted to approve H.R. 8294, a six-bill appropriations minibus package for fiscal year 2023. The legislation seeks to support American families, the U.S. economy, and communities across South Florida by creating good-paying jobs and protecting the health and well-being of those residents. The appropriations package also includes close to $35 million in various community projects championed by Congresswoman Wilson, which provide essential funding for District 24.

“The funding package we voted on today is a win for our nation and a win for South Florida as Democrats work to create opportunities and invest in the American people and economy,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “In every city and across our community, this funding will lead to real improvements in infrastructure, quality of life, and services we are able to provide at the federal, state, and local level. I am so proud to take a pivotal step towards delivering for our constituents and bringing home almost $35 million in project funds to our district.”

This government funding package secures funding for specific community projects filed by Congresswoman Wilson such as:

  • $4 million to the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department for the Simonhoff Floral Park improvements, the construction of the COVID–19 memorial, and Douglas Park Community Center improvements
  • $4 million to the Boys & Girls Club of Miami Dade Inc. 
  • $4 million to the Thelma Gibson Health Initiative for the founding of the Bahamian Museum of Arts and Culture
  • $3.4 million to Miami-Dade County’s Department of Regulatory & Economic Resources for the Remediation of 127th Street Canal in Opa-Locka
  • $3.4 million to Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department for septic to sewer conversion projects in the cities of El Portal and Miami Shores
  • $3 million to United Way Miami for the Miami Veterans Housing Project
  • $3 million to the U.S. General Services Administration for Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. U.S. Courthouse repairs
  • $3 million to the City of North Miami Beach for the Washington Park site development
  • $3 million to the City of West Park for a cultural facility development at McTyre Park
  • $3 million to the Museum of Contemporary Art Inc. in North Miami
  • $750,000 to the City of Miami Gardens for drainage improvement projects

Overall, this legislation also includes critical investments in a range of key priorities for Florida’s communities:

  • Creating Good-Paying Jobs by upgrading Florida’s roads, bridges, public transit, rail, airports, and water infrastructure.
  • Combating the Climate Crisis by expanding renewable energy, strengthening local resilience against extreme weather, and spurring new, innovative technology.
  • Bolstering Floridians’ Health and Economic Security by investing in federal nutrition programs, Florida small businesses, stronger consumer protection and expanded affordable housing.
  • Honoring Our Servicemembers by investing in VA health care, military housing, childcare for military families and mental health services.
  • Strengthening Our Nation’s Food Supply by supporting Floridan farmers, expanding agricultural research and investing in land conservation.
