Wilson Votes to Pass INVEST in America Act

The bill allocates $20 million for District 24 infrastructure projects

Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson applauded House passage of the "Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act," which includes funding for 11 projects in Florida's 24th congressional district. Rep. Wilson fought to ensure the projects were included in the INVEST in America Act, which makes transformational investments in America's highways, roads, bridges, transit, rail, and water infrastructure to create jobs, modernize our infrastructure and reduce carbon pollution. This legislation puts some of the key pieces of President Biden's infrastructure vision into legislative text.

In total, nearly $20 million will be allocated to the district to complete the following projects:

City of West Park – Awarded $3.15 million

  • County line project – $944,000
  • SW 36th Street project – $1.6 million
  • SW 52nd Ave project – $602,400

City of Miami Gardens – Awarded $3.96 million

  • NW 183rd to 191st Street project – $1.2 million
  • Alleyways Drainage Improvement Project – $240,000
  • NW 187th Street to 199th Street project – $960,000
  • NW 191st to 199th Street project – $600,000
  • NW 199th to 202 Street project – $960,000

Village of El Portal – Awarded $1.32 million

  • NW/NE 87th Street Corridor – $1,320,551

City of Opa-locka – Awarded $2.4million

  • Rail crossing project – $2.4 million (351)

Miami-Dade County – Awarded $9.1 million

SMART Plan Beach Express – $9.1 million

"I was proud to go to bat for my constituents to help bring our nation's infrastructure into the modern era and secure funding for local projects," Congresswoman Wilson said]. "For too long, Congress has failed to act boldly when it comes to our infrastructure, leaving our country with congested roads, failing sewer systems, lead in our pipes, unsafe bridges, infrequent and unreliable bus service, and slow-moving trains. It's time to build back better, reconnect communities, and restore our global competitiveness with the INVEST in America Act, legislation that will help create millions of good-paying jobs and support U.S. manufacturing. Critically, this legislation will also put our country on a path toward zero emissions in the transportation sector by providing historic investments in transit, rail, electric vehicle charging, and alternative modes of transportation. With this bill, we are on the right track to create economic opportunity for all in the 21st century and beyond."

The INVEST in America Act also includes the Transportation Equity Act introduced by Congresswoman Wilson to re-establish the Advisory Committee on Transportation Equity within the Department of Transportation. This committee would be comprised of community, academic, and government stakeholders to advise the Transportation secretary on policies to promote equity through community engagement and interagency collaboration.
