Today, U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) announced that she will be hosting the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth’s national listening and learning tour in Broward and Miami-Dade counties at a town hall meeting and a roundtable discussion of elected officials, state and local experts, and foster youth and parents. The events will focus on the challenges that children in foster care face and how to improve the child welfare system on both the federal and state levels.

Joining Congresswoman Wilson at both the town hall meeting and roundtable discussion will be U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.), Karen Bass (D-Calif.) and Tom Marino (D-Pa.).

Rodney Baltimore, radio host of Miami’s HOT 105, will moderate the roundtable discussion at His House in Miami Gardens, which will also include representatives from the Florida Department of Children and Families and the non-profit organization Our Kids, and foster children and foster parents.

His House is a private, non-profit housing facility for newborn foster care children up to 18 years of age.

The South Florida stop is second of at least four nationwide that the Caucus will visit this year for briefings, site visits and town hall meetings.

The sponsor of the Rilya Wilson Act in the Florida Senate and in the Congress, Congresswoman Wilson is a longtime child advocate, going back to her days in the state legislature, on the school board, as the principal of Skyway Elementary School, and as the founder of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence program.

Media are invited to attend. For interview requests or for more information, please contact Gwen Belton at gwen.belton@mail.house.gov or via cell at (305) 407-4270.
