Conversation with Seniors and Medicare Policy Experts on the Future of Medicare

Over 300,000 Medicare Recipients Live in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties Alone

Rep. Frederica Wilson today announced that she will hold a joint live/tele town hall on the future of Medicare. The forum will be an opportunity for constituents to get answers to questions they may have about Medicare, the pillar of our society safety net.

Who/What:Rep. Frederica Wilson hosts “Tele Town Hall and Congress on Your Corner on the Future of Medicare.” Rep Wilson will be joined on the call by Hugo Huapaya, Health Insurance Specialist at the Miami office of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and Vicki Gottlich, Senior Policy Advisor at the Center for Medicare Advocacy.

When:Monday April 25^th (tele town hall from 11:00 a.m.-noon; live town hall from 12:00-12:30 p.m. at the senior center)

Universe/Audience:40,000 randomly-selected seniors across the 17^th District of Florida for the tele town hall; approximately 100 senior citizens from all walks of life for the live town hall

The Austin Hepburn Center is a multi-purpose facility named in honor of Austin Hepburn, Jr., a Hallandale Beach Police Officer who lost his life in the line of duty. The Center provides a wide array of comprehensive services for adults ages 60 and older, including case management; job assistance; emergency food, rental, and utility payment assistance; HIV/AIDS testing; health services; and outreach. The Center aims to enhance the ability of senior citizens to maintain their independence; improve socialization skills; access counseling; and secure medical, housing, and legal aid.

Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term congresswoman representing the 17^th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties. She is a former state legislator and school principal and the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
