Rep. Wilson on Democrats Averting a Government Shutdown

"Republicans Are Playing a Risky Game with the Lives of Working People, and They Will Pay the Price"

"Instead of Creating Jobs, Why Are THey Focused on a Divisive Social Agenda?"

Rep. Frederica Wilson (FL-17) today issued the following statement after Democrats averted a government shutdown following Republican attempts to promote a divisive social agenda:

“It is time for Republicans to stop playing games by putting politics before doing what’s right. Instead of creating jobs, why are they focused on promoting a divisive social agenda and extending billions in special tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of our children, senior citizens, veterans, teachers, and the poor?

“Democrats successfully averted a government shutdown and refused to allow the Tea Party to demolish Medicare. Medicare and Medicaid are lifelines which determine life and death situations for seniors and the poor. On top of that, Republicans held hostage little children enrolled in Head Start all over the nation.

“Democrats did not fall for such an extreme plan. I did not tolerate it, and my constituents wholeheartedly rejected this selfish strategy.

“Now more than ever, I am committed to supporting President Obama to create jobs and win the future by out-educating, out-competing, and out-innovating the competition. We cannot lose sight of essential investments that will create jobs and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity, including education and job training. Republicans are playing a risky game with the lives of working people, and they will pay the price.”
