Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-17) will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Garth C. Reeves, Publisher Emeritus of the Miami Times, at the NNPA 2011 Newsmaker of the Year Awards Gala on the night of Thursday March 17th in Washington, DC. The Miami Times has served as a critical news source for South Florida’s African American community since 1923.

She is a former state legislator and school principal and the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
