“Dr. King lived his life in pursuit of equality, non-violence, and justice for all. He taught us to love our fellow citizens regardless of race or creed and embrace one another in our common humanity. He fought against all forms of bigotry and inspired our country to work towards his vision of a ‘beloved community.’”
“At a time of great political division, let us recommit to Dr. King’s vision of equality and brotherhood. On this day, we honor his life and legacy, and do our part to live up to his ideals in our own lives.”
In the 1980s, Ms. Wilson lobbied federal officials from Florida in support of designating a federal holiday for Dr. King. This year, she is honoring his legacy by attending an annual Unity Scholarship Breakfast in Miami-Dade.
