Congresswoman Wilson’s Statement on Texas Anti-LGBTQ Healthcare Ruling

Today, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) issued the following statement on a Texas judge’s decision striking down an Affordable Care Act requirement that insurers and employers offer plans that cover HIV-prevention drugs:

“For a decade, PrEP has been a lifesaving tool to prevent the spread of a still incurable illness—HIV and AIDS. This medication has helped us fight back against an epidemic that’s killed millions and has allowed men and women of every background to live healthy, stable lives. Reducing access to this necessary medication places the LGBTQ+ community in danger.

“Sadly, this is just one more attempt to limit the personal freedoms of Americans due to their gender, sexuality, or identity. Radical MAGA Republicans will stop at nothing in their attempts to control us and spew hateful vitriol against the LGBTQ+ community. Today's decision is outright discrimination and has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with hate.

“I will continue to stand up to vile attacks on Americans' healthcare freedoms regardless of whether they're directed at our reproductive freedoms or personal liberties, they are attacks on our fundamental right to privacy. We must speak up and stop these extremist aggressions or find ourselves the new target of their hate.”
