Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson Responds to Reports of Additional Remains of Sgt. La David Johnson Found in Niger
Washington, D.C. – “It is difficult to find the words to describe how dismaying it was to learn that some of Sgt. La David Johnson’s remains were found in Niger weeks after his funeral. My heart breaks for his widow, Myeshia, and the rest of his family, who upon hearing this news must have felt like they were losing him all over again.
“I want the family to know, though, that I will continue to push and push and push for a thorough investigation of both the ambush and La David’s final hours. As I wrote in a Washington Post opinion piece last week, ‘learning definitively the cause of death and whether he died in combat or was executed by his captors is an important step in the family’s healing process.’
“I urge all Americans to join me in the push to find out when the government will be able to present a full explanation of the circumstances that led to his death and three other American soldiers. We owe it to their families and to every military family.”
