Congresswoman Wilson's Statement on President Obama's Support of Same-Sex MarriageWednesday May 09, 2012
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on President Obama’s support of same-sex marriage:
“As a product of the civil rights movement, I believe in equality for all. As a lifelong educator, I have experienced the pain and hurt that rejection has on our gay and lesbian children. So, I always taught my students about the Golden Rule – ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ We are all children of God, and we all deserve the same freedoms, protections and peace. Right on, Mr. President, right on!”
Rep. Frederica S. Wilson is a first-term Congresswoman representing the 17th District of Florida, including Northern Miami-Dade and Southeast Broward Counties. A former state legislator and school principal, she is the founder of the 5000 Role Models for Excellence Project, a mentoring program for young males at risk of dropping out of school.
